I Can’t Keep Up and I’m Ok With That

shrugIt used to be that whenever I got some free time to play on the internet it made me realize how much I missed it and I would complain that I never had enough time to just sit and absorb the content. Lately however I find myself not complaining nearly as much as I used to. It’s not that I have more time; it’s because I’ve finally come to the realization that until the kids grow up a bit more, the wife switches jobs, or I win the lottery I’m never going to be able to devote as much time to the interwebs as I used to.

The past few weeks have been fantastic though. With my new Sprint Broadband service I pretty much have internet where ever I go and that seems to help a lot. I’m logging on more often in smaller chunks. But again, I think it’s cause I’m not holding myself to such a strict regiment of trying to keep up with my RSS reader. I used to beat myself up if I let anything fall past the 30 day window that Google Reader gives you on your feeds. I didn’t want to miss anything you know? It’s kind of like how I used to be with Twitter. I used to get all updates to my phone via sms. But once I started following more than 300 people or so it got to be more updates than I could keep up with. And like Twitter I finally just said “I’m not going to be able to keep up with everything all the time”.

I’ll always strive for more “me time” but I’m really enjoying my kids at the ages they’re at. I’ve been shooting more video of them and with them which is awesome all by itself. Besides, I can always go back and catch up on things; because the internet never forgets and Google knows all.

  1. Clintus.
I can relate. There are just way to many social networking sites, RSS feeds, blogs, Vlogs, etc. to keep up with. I can get a pretty good snapshot of what’s new and important from the various Twitter UIs. I have a fairly comprehensive group of people that I follow encompassing most walks of life. With that I will hopefully see you @Podcampaz in November.

  2. I completely agree. Over the years I’ve had spasms of guilt over the fact that I rarely read my RSS feeds, sometimes don’t check my email every day (or even if I do, don’t reply right away), and sometimes don’t log into Twitter for days on end. But then I realize that’s silly. There’s so many sources of communication and information nowadays that if you truly kept up with it, you’d never leave your computer/smartphone.

  3. Honestly… I feel like I need rehab cause Im keeping up too much.

Ugh… I do enjoy your videos of your kids tho.. they in some way relax my social non-stop mind.

    cheers
